Music Man 210HD 130

When I picked up this Music Man a few months back, it had definitely seen better days. One speaker was seized, the reverb tank was missing in action, and the back panel was gone. The tubes were all-original - a set of RSD EL34's from 1978 - and working… temporarily, at least. One quickly died after a few weeks of playing.

Even still, the bones of it were there - and so was the sound. Classic, clean, headroom for days, and a brilliantly warm and warbly tremolo.
The first order of business was swapping in a fresh set of matched tubes rated for the high voltage this amp runs — E34L-JJs. The Celestion G10S-50 speakers (circa 1980) got swapped out for a pair of Warehouse G10C/S, each rated at 75W to comfortably handle the 130W this beast puts out.

I also fitted a new TAD reverb tank and added a set of casters — my back thanks me. To finish it off, I replaced the grillcloth with a Black and Tan from Mojotone. Really happy with how that turned out in particular.

Internals
Being a novice to tube amps, I've been hesitant to open up the amp chassis or attempt to service the internal components. With this amp in particular, there are a whopping 700+ volts of DC flowing in the circuit when it's fully powered up. Needless to say, that's nothing to mess around with if you're unsure what you're doing.
Given the state of the other components, I assumed the internals were untouched in the last 50 years so a proper service would be needed. I had a peek under the hood to see what kind of shape things were in. And from what I can tell, it is indeed all original on the inside as well.
The amp is currently paying a visit to a tech to diagnose what updates are needed. Look forward to having it back in action!
